Byron Good Neighbor Days

The Byron Good Neighbor Days was a fun experience! We had four booths on Friday where FLL jr., FLL, FTC, and FRC all joined in to show off what we do. It was a great way for people to see that robotics is not just for high school students like a lot of people think. We have groups all the way from Kindergarten to High School Seniors. Each group had their own booth set up with FRC’s being the biggest.  Just as we had it all set up, the sky darkened and the droplets soon started to fall down. A little rain did not dampen the party for FLL and FLL jr. because they were well prepared with a canopy. FIRST Lego League was booming with business. Not a surprise as legos are awesome!
The larger robots for FTC and FRC do not function in the rain so huge tarps soon covered the robots and the game field.  the After the rain stopped, FIRST Tech Competition had two of their little robots roam around City Hall. People found the little robots interesting and the kids loved to drive the robot (if they were not too shy).  FIRST Robotics Competition didn’t completely miss out on all the fun. Towards the beginning before the rain, people got to drive our large robot around.
We got to show the FRC robot off a lot more at the parade two days later.  The parade was so much fun! Seeing all the kids and adults ooh and ahh at our robot was amazing and made us feel proud. We handed out candy and the robot was throwing cubes around next to us on our float. I somehow didn’t see or hear this happen, but our robot crashed into one of the side railings. Where the robot hit, the wooden railing was destroyed.  We planned for safety so it was no problem. Our music was great! We danced our way to the end of the parade and had an awesome day with our crew.
